Dorchester Man Arrested for Shoplifting and Firearm Possession in South Boston

BOSTON, Mass. — A Dorchester man was arrested on multiple charges, including firearm possession, following a shoplifting incident in South Boston on Tuesday morning. The arrest took place around 10:30 a.m. on August 27, 2024, after officers from District C-6 responded to a report of a shoplifter at 5 Allstate Road.

Upon arrival, officers were informed by the store’s constable that the suspect, identified as David Rattay, 33, of Dorchester, had been caught shoplifting. During the apprehension, the constable discovered a firearm in Rattay’s right pant pocket. The firearm was later identified as an unloaded Black Diamondback. A subsequent search of the suspect also revealed twelve pills of gabapentin, a prescription medication.

Rattay was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Possession of Class E drugs, and Shoplifting by Concealing Merchandise. Additionally, it was revealed that Rattay had two active warrants for his arrest.

He is expected to be arraigned in South Boston District Court.
