FREDERICK, Md. — A Frederick County man’s routine lottery play took a fortunate turn when he turned a modest Keno win into a $50,000 prize from a Maryland Lottery scratch-off ticket.

The player, whose identity has not been disclosed, initially won $465 playing Keno. With his winnings in hand, he decided to try his luck further by purchasing a $30 scratch-off ticket from the 200X The Cash game at Paddock Wine & Spirits in Woodbine.

After winning $30 on his first scratch-off ticket, the man reinvested his prize into another ticket, which brought him $40. It was his third ticket, however, that proved to be the most lucrative. The 200X The Cash game ticket revealed one of its six second-tier $50,000 prizes, propelling the frequent Keno player to an unexpected windfall.

“He loves it,” the winner’s wife said of his Keno hobby during their visit to Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore to claim the prize. “He plays all the time,” she added, mentioning that she occasionally participates in lottery games as well.

The $30 200X The Cash game, which still has three remaining top prizes of $2 million and four remaining $50,000 prizes, was the ticket that changed the couple’s fortunes. The couple, proud parents of a young dog, have hinted that a new fence may be one of the first purchases funded by their lottery winnings.

Paddock Wine & Spirits, located at 7627 Woodbine Road in Carroll County, sold the lucky ticket, earning bragging rights for the winning sale.
