LA PLATA, Md. — A Southern Maryland man is celebrating a long-awaited win after claiming a $50,015 prize in the Maryland Lottery’s Bonus Match 5 game. The Charles County resident, an I.T. specialist, said his love for numbers and persistence paid off when he hit the jackpot on September 6, 2024.

“I’m an I.T. guy, so numbers are a big thing for me,” the winner told lottery officials. He recognized the winning five-number combination immediately after checking the results on the Maryland Lottery website. After a tense few minutes retrieving his tickets from his car, the man confirmed that one of his nine combinations on the $6 ticket purchased from Lady’s Liquors in La Plata was the big winner. He also netted an additional $15 from the other eight combinations.

The man said the prize is a huge relief, as it will allow him to pay off most of his debt. “What a relief this is,” he shared. “I had a timetable in mind for finally being debt-free. I am way ahead now.”

Lady’s Liquors, located at 6474 Crain Highway, will receive a $500 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
