New Rochelle police arrest suspect in DWI hit-and-run collision

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. — A 35-year-old Stamford man was arrested on Wednesday following a hit-and-run accident involving a suspected drunk driver.

At around 7:58 p.m. on September 4, a pickup truck exited I-95 Northbound at Exit 16 and collided head-on with a Toyota sedan near the intersection of Garden Street and Cottage Place. The driver and passenger of the sedan, a 28-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman, sustained minor injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The driver of the pickup truck fled the scene but was later located by New Rochelle police at the New Rochelle Train Station. Officers identified the suspect, Rogelio Salamanca-Lopez, 35, of Stamford, Conn., who was awaiting a train. Police determined that Salamanca-Lopez was intoxicated, and he was arrested without incident.

Charges related to the incident were not immediately available.
