New Rochelle man arrested after domestic dispute and standoff

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. — A 35-year-old man was arrested late Tuesday night following a domestic dispute at an apartment on Eastchester Road, where he allegedly struck a woman and then barricaded himself in a bedroom with a knife. The suspect, Eduardo Valencia-Maldonado, eventually surrendered to police without incident.

New Rochelle Police responded to the scene at approximately 11:04 p.m. on September 17, 2024. According to authorities, Valencia-Maldonado assaulted a woman known to him before locking himself in a bedroom. Officers arrived and secured the other occupants of the apartment while attempting to communicate with the suspect.

After initially receiving no response from Valencia-Maldonado, police were able to convince him to surrender peacefully. He was taken into custody at the scene.

Valencia-Maldonado has been charged with Criminal Contempt in the First Degree, an E felony, for violating an order of protection. The incident remains under investigation.

No injuries were reported.
