Queens Woman Pleads Guilty to Manslaughter and Burglary

Queens, NY – Haiyan Deng has admitted to manslaughter in the first degree along with other charges for fatally shooting a man in her apartment in Flushing on September 18, 2021. The victim, found in Deng’s bed with a gunshot wound to the head, was discovered by first responders during a wellness check.

District Attorney Melinda Katz stated, “the defendant has admitted guilt for shooting and killing a young man inside her own home.” Melinda Katz also expressed hope that the plea would provide some closure to the victim’s loved ones.

Deng, 34, residing on 39th Avenue in Flushing, pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the first degree and burglary in the second degree on Friday. Queens Supreme Court Justice Ushir Pandit-Durant is expected to sentence Deng to 27 years in prison, with 22 years for manslaughter and five years for burglary, to be served consecutively. The sentencing is scheduled for October 16.
