Single-Vehicle Accident Claims Life in Felton

Police light at the scene of an emergency.

Felton, DE – Delaware State Police are currently investigating a single-vehicle fatal crash that took place on Thursday night in Felton.

On Thursday at approximately 8:17 p.m., a 56-year-old man from Felton was driving a GMC Sierra eastbound on Sandtown Road. The vehicle exited a left curve and, for unknown reasons, veered off the south side of the roadway near the 4000 block of Sandtown Road. The truck continued eastward, partially on the grass and roadway, before the driver swerved left. This maneuver caused the truck to rotate counterclockwise and re-enter the road, where it skidded sideways in a northeastern direction.

The vehicle eventually left the road again, overturning along a ditch and coming to rest upright in a cornfield on the north side of Sandtown Road. The driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the driver is being withheld pending family notification.

Sandtown Road was closed for approximately three hours while the Delaware State Police Troop 3 Collision Reconstruction Unit conducted their investigation and cleared the area.
