Teen Philadelphia “Mother of Satan” Terrorist Plot Suspect to Be Tried as Adult

PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office announced it will prosecute Muhyyee-Ud-Din Abdul-Rahman, 18, of West Philadelphia as an adult.

Evidence collected during an investigation indicated Rahman intended to cause a mass casualty event. Philadelphia Family Court agreed Tuesday to transfer the case to the adult justice system. Rahman is charged with numerous offenses, including Attempt to Commit Weapons of Mass Destruction and Criminal Conspiracy.

Law enforcement began investigating Rahman after intercepting electronic communications between him and terrorist organizations in Syria. The organizations included Katibat al Tawhid wal Jihad and Hay’at Tahrir al Sham, both affiliated with Al-Qaeda. Investigators discovered that Rahman was accumulating materials to construct explosives at his parents’ home. Agents found evidence of at least 12 explosive tests.

The investigation revealed Rahman was purchasing tactical combat gear, including a chest rig for AK-47 magazines.

Rahman attempted to create Triacetone Triperoxide, a highly potent and unstable explosive known as “The Mother of Satan.” Authorities arrested Rahman in August 2023. During an interview, Rahman admitted his intent to
