Utica Man Arrested for Genesee Street Shooting

UTICA, NY – The Utica Police Department responded to a shots-fired incident at 1400 Genesee St on Monday at approximately 9:00 PM.

A bullet had traveled through a wall into an adjacent apartment, causing a hole but injuring no one.

Upon arrival, officers secured the scene and engaged with individuals in both apartments.

A search waiver was granted for the apartment from which the shots were believed to have originated.

With the assistance of K9 Vigo, a firearms and explosive detection dog, officers discovered a long gun and a safe containing a handgun inside the apartment.

A male resident, identified as 29-year-old Davante Greer, was detained and transported to the Utica Police Department.

Greer was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, and an outstanding harassment warrant.

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges may be forthcoming.
