Dover police arrest suspect in fatal shooting of Barry Best

DOVER, Del. — The Dover Police Department has arrested 21-year-old Alexander Singletary of Smyrna in connection with the fatal shooting of Barry Best, 50, of Dover, that occurred on September 30, authorities announced Thursday.

Singletary was taken into custody on October 2 after the department’s Special Operations Response Team executed a search warrant at a residence in the 400 block of New Castle Avenue. During the search, detectives also arrested Jaylan Koroma, 18, of Dover, on unrelated charges. Police recovered two handguns at the scene.

Singletary has been charged with first-degree murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and three counts of possession of a firearm by a person prohibited. He is being held at the Sussex Correctional Institution (SCI) on $1,060,000 cash bail.

Koroma was charged with non-compliance with bond and was also committed to SCI on $2,000 secured bail.

The investigation into the homicide is ongoing, and no further details have been released at this time.
