Dover man arrested after accidental shooting injures one

DOVER, Del. — Delaware State Police arrested a Dover man on Thursday following a shooting that left one person injured.

Authorities said 25-year-old Cody Toomey was taken into custody after a 45-year-old man was shot in the arm on the 300 block of David Hall Road. The incident occurred around 8:37 p.m. on Thursday, when police responded to a report of a shooting.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Toomey and the victim were working on a vehicle in the driveway when Toomey placed an unsecured gun on the front steps of the house. A 3-year-old family member found the firearm and discharged it, striking the victim in the arm. The injured man was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Toomey was arrested and charged with two counts of reckless endangering in the first degree. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 7 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $6,000 secured bond.
