Wilkes-Barre Police Arrest Man Following Car and Foot Pursuit

Wilkes-Barre, PA- A man was arrested following a pursuit by the Wilkes-Barre City Police on Tuesday. The incident occurred at 3:20 p.m. and involved defendant Paul Chavis, 55, of Wilkes-Barre, PA.

Officers on patrol attempted a traffic stop in the area of Sullivan and South Franklin Streets. Chavis, driving a black BMW, did not yield to the officers’ lights and sirens. This initiated a vehicle chase, which continued until Chavis exited the vehicle near South River Street and fled on foot.

Officers apprehended Chavis shortly afterward. During a search conducted as part of the arrest, officers found suspected narcotics in his possession. Additionally, it was discovered that there was an active arrest warrant for Chavis from the Luzerne County Sheriff’s Office.

Chavis was first taken to the City Headquarters following his arrest. Afterwards, he was transported to Luzerne County Correctional Facility (LCCF) for further processing.
