JACKSON, NJ – U.S. Republican Congressman Chris Smith, one of two Republicans representing New Jersey in Congress has made it clear that he is behind former President Donald Trump in the November election. Today, he also made it clear that he is supporting the Republican candidates for council in Jackson Township in Column L on the ballot.
Earlier this year, Smith put his differences with Trump aside and announced at the former President’s rally in Wildwood that he would endorse him in November.
Trump praised Smith for the congressman’s support of his agenda in Congress while he was president.
Smith endorsed Jackson Councilman Nino Borrelli, Councilman Mordy Burnstein, and Jackson School Board President Giuseppe Palmeri for council in 2024.
“Councilmen Nino Borrelli and Mordy Burnstein and School Board President Giuseppe Palmeri are three proven public servants who have been dedicated to providing the best services for the residents of Jackson,” said Rep. Chris Smith. “Each of these leaders fully supports local law enforcement, enhanced senior services, and securing proper state funding for our schools. It is my pleasure to endorse Borrelli, Burnstein, and Palmeri, and I look forward to continuing our work together for the people of Jackson.”
They are being challenged by registered Democrat Hope Drew and a husband and wife team of Eric and Elenor Hannum that features a political newcomer, Amanda Trombetta.
Hannum has filed a $500,000 lawsuit against the township of Jackson, seeking $250,000 in damages each from Council President Jennifer Kuhn and Township Attorney Gregory McGucking. Hannum claims that the township violated her civil rights after calling her ‘out of order’ while making personal accusations and attacks against sitting officials.
She was asked to leave the room momentarily and escorted out by police. She was later allowed to return to the meeting.
Trombetta sued the Port Authority Police Department and won $1.5 million after she was allegedly called an “American Girl Doll” by instructors at the police academy. She never graduated from the training.
The Column L Republican ticket has also been endorsed by the District 12 New Jersey Republican team of Senator Owen Henry and Assemblymen Alex Sauickie and Rob Clifton.
“We are honored to have the support of Republican leaders Senator Owen Henry along with Jackson’s own Assemblyman Alex Sauickie & Assemblyman Rob Clifton,” the team said in a statement. “We will never stop fighting for Jackson!”
