Fatal hit-and-run under investigation in Midland Park

MIDLAND PARK, N.J. — Authorities are investigating a fatal hit-and-run accident that left a pedestrian dead Friday evening in Bergen County.

The incident occurred at approximately 7:09 p.m. at the intersection of Godwin Avenue and Witte Drive, according to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office. Midland Park police responded to reports of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. Upon arrival, officers found that the vehicle involved had fled the scene.

The victim, an adult male, was transported to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center with serious injuries, where he was later pronounced dead.

The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, led by Chief Matthew Finck, and the Midland Park Police Department, under the direction of Chief Michael Powderley, are handling the investigation. Authorities have not released the identity of the victim, pending notification of the family.
