New Castle, DE – Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal three-vehicle collision that occurred early Saturday morning in New Castle. The incident happened on I-95 near Churchmans Marsh around 4:18 a.m.

A 45-year-old Bear, Delaware resident was driving a Hyundai Tucson southbound on I-95, while a 29-year-old New Castle resident was maneuvering a Kia Forte in the adjacent right lane. Simultaneously, a 61-year-old man from Mineral Point, Wisconsin, had parked his Freightliner bucket truck on the right shoulder for inspection.

The Kia unexpectedly veered onto the right shoulder, striking the parked bucket truck with its driver still inside. The collision forced the Kia back into the center lane, where it collided with the Hyundai, ejecting its unbelted driver, who was pronounced dead. The Hyundai driver was unharmed, while the bucket truck driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Post-crash, southbound I-95 was shut down for approximately three hours for investigation and clearing operations by the Delaware State Police.
