Brinks Memorial Ceremony Scheduled in Nyack

Nyack, NY – The Brinks Memorial Ceremony will take place on Sunday, October 20, at 4:00 PM on Mountainview Avenue in Nyack. The event will be held near the entrance to the New York State Thruway.

This ceremony commemorates the armed robbery and subsequent murders that occurred on October 20, 1981. Members of the Black Liberation Army and former Weather Underground members orchestrated the crime.

During the robbery, the conspirators stole $1.6 million from a Brink’s armored vehicle at the Nanuet National Bank in the Nanuet Mall. The incident resulted in the death of Brink’s guard Peter Paige and injuries to guards Joseph Trombino and James Kelly.

In their escape, the robbers killed Nyack police officers Sgt. Edward O’Grady and Officer Waverly Brown. Detective Artie Keenan was also seriously wounded in the encounter.
