Frederick, MD – The Frederick Police Department has noted a rise in airbag thefts within the city, primarily affecting Honda vehicles. Thieves are reportedly breaking car windows to access these vehicles and are removing airbags from the steering wheel columns.

The stolen airbags are suspected to be sold to retailers or suppliers. Authorities are appealing to residents, especially in the Wyngate and Carrollton neighborhoods, to assist in this matter. Individuals with information or surveillance footage are urged to contact the Frederick Police Department at 301-600-2102.

Anonymous tips can also be submitted by calling 301-600-TIPS (8477), emailing fpdcrimetip@frederickmdpolice.org, or sending a text to 240-674-TIPS (8477). To curb the spread of these thefts, the police are distributing free steering wheel locks to city residents who own a Honda vehicle.

Residents interested in obtaining a lock should reach out to PIO Samantha Long at slong@frederickmdpolice.org. The department appreciates community support in maintaining public safety.
