HANOVER, Md. — Anne Arundel County Police have arrested Dontay Maurice Fitzgerald, 45, of Baltimore, in connection with the fatal shooting of Yant Junior Gomez, 31, at Arundel Mills Mall in September. Fitzgerald was apprehended on Friday without incident, according to authorities.

The shooting occurred on September 13, 2024, around 9:30 p.m., in the parking lot near the mall’s movie theater complex. Police arrived at the scene within minutes and found Gomez, of Harlem, New York, suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper torso. Despite life-saving efforts by officers and medical personnel, Gomez was pronounced dead while en route to the hospital.

Investigators determined the shooting was a targeted event, leading to a month-long investigation that culminated in the arrest of Fitzgerald. The Anne Arundel County Police Homicide Unit obtained a warrant for Fitzgerald’s arrest earlier this month.

Police are asking anyone with additional information regarding the case to contact them directly or anonymously through their tip lines.
