Woodbridge woman killed in pedestrian crash, investigation ongoing

WOODBRIDGE, Va. — A 57-year-old woman was struck and killed by a vehicle while walking her dog early Thursday morning, according to police. The fatal crash occurred at approximately 6:37 a.m. in the area of Mapledale Drive near Miles Court.

The driver of a 2020 Nissan Versa was traveling southbound on Mapledale Drive when the vehicle veered off the roadway and onto the sidewalk, striking the pedestrian, police said. The victim, identified as Maria Isabel Cardozo of Woodbridge, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, a 30-year-old Woodbridge man, remained at the scene and was not injured. Investigators reported that neither alcohol nor drugs were factors in the crash. The woman’s dog was later found near her residence and was unharmed.

Charges are pending as the investigation into the crash continues, authorities said.
