Off-duty NYC sanitation worker arrested on assault charge in Queens

QUEENS, N.Y. — An off-duty New York City Department of Sanitation employee was arrested early Sunday morning in Queens, according to police. Aidan Murtagh, 24, was taken into custody around 1:08 a.m. within the confines of the NYPD’s 104th Precinct, which covers neighborhoods including Ridgewood, Glendale, and Middle Village.

Murtagh, a sanitation worker with the Department of Sanitation (DSNY), has been charged with third-degree assault. Details surrounding the incident that led to the charge have not been disclosed, and it remains unclear if any injuries were reported or if other individuals were involved.

The DSNY has not issued a public statement regarding the arrest, and it is currently unknown if Murtagh will face disciplinary action within the department. City employees, including DSNY workers, are subject to review by their respective agencies when involved in criminal incidents, particularly when charges involve violent conduct.
