Ventnor man sentenced to prison for 2021 stabbing at Absecon park

MAYS LANDING, N.J. — A Ventnor man was sentenced to three years in state prison on Thursday for a stabbing that took place in Absecon nearly three years ago, authorities announced.

William Clanton, 24, pleaded guilty to third-degree aggravated assault in connection with a January 1, 2021 incident at Field of Dreams Park in Absecon. According to the Absecon Police Department, officers responded to a report of a stabbing at the park and found the victim suffering from multiple stab wounds to the head, throat, arm, and abdomen.

Officers administered lifesaving treatment on the scene, and the victim was transported to the hospital, where he survived the injuries. Clanton was found at the park with two knives in his possession and admitted to stabbing the victim during a fight, police said.

The investigation was conducted by the Absecon Police Department in collaboration with the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office’s Major Crimes Unit. Clanton was sentenced to three years in New Jersey State Prison for the assault.
