Investigation Leads Utica Police to Hit and Run Suspec

Utica, NY – The City of Utica Police Department has announced progress in a hit-and-run incident reported on Monday. A pedestrian was hit by a vehicle on South Street near Genesee Street.

On Monday, the Criminal Investigations Division collaborated with the Mohawk Valley Crime Analysis Center to leverage technology across the city, which led to a suspect’s identification and arrest. They employed FLOCK license plate reader technology along with city pole cameras.

The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Miguel Fernandez of Utica, has been charged with Leaving the Scene of a Serious Personal Injury Accident. The victim of the accident remains in a medically induced coma, with their condition described as critical but stable.
