Others, like the former communications director for Harris are now calling for the sitting U.S. President of the United States to resign and let Harris serve the remaining 90 days until Trump’s inauguration as the sitting President of the United States.

In a surprising suggestion, Jamal Simmons, former communications director for Vice President Kamala Harris, speculated on a potential path for Harris to step into the role of president—if President Joe Biden were to step down. Appearing on CNN’s State of the Union, Simmons floated the idea that Biden might fulfill his role as a “transitional figure” by voluntarily passing the torch to Harris.
Simmons was clear in his praise of Biden, noting that he has delivered on many of his campaign promises, and that there’s one last pledge he could fulfill by facilitating a smooth transition to the next generation.
In Simmons’ words, this would mean Biden stepping aside within the next 30 days, allowing Harris to make history as the first woman president.
However, it’s worth noting that there’s no indication Biden is considering such a move. In fact, his administration has consistently confirmed his intention to run for re-election in 2024. While the idea has sparked some conversations about succession, the White House has remained steady in its stance that Biden will remain in office through the end of his term.
