FREDERICK, MD — A person experiencing a mental health crisis died Saturday after sustaining a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the 300 block of West Seventh Street, according to local authorities.

Frederick police, working alongside the Crisis Response Team and trained crisis negotiators, were called to the scene to assist the individual and provide mental health support in a controlled environment.

Despite extensive efforts to de-escalate the situation, the individual suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Officers rendered emergency medical aid until EMS arrived, but the person was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police confirmed that no one else was injured during the incident, which they described as isolated. There is no ongoing threat to public safety, but parts of the area remain closed as investigators continue their work.

“We appreciate the patience and understanding of our community during this time,” officials said in a statement.

The investigation continues as the city processes the tragic outcome of the mental health crisis.
