Fatal hit-and-run in Accokeek claims life of local woman, police seek driver

ACCOKEEK, Md. — Prince George’s County police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run that left a 40-year-old woman dead Friday night on Indian Head Highway.

The victim, identified as Loretta Canter-Andrews of Accokeek, was found in the roadway by responding officers around 9:50 p.m. near the intersection of Indian Head Highway and Farmington Road. She was pronounced dead at the scene from trauma sustained in the collision.

Preliminary findings suggest that Canter-Andrews was struck in the highway’s northbound lanes by a driver who fled the scene. Investigators from the department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit are working to identify both the driver and the vehicle involved.
