One dead in fiery single-vehicle crash in Albemarle County

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. — Authorities are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash on Colston Drive that left one person dead after the car caught fire Sunday night.

At approximately 8:12 p.m. on November 24, Albemarle County Police and Fire Rescue responded to a report of a crash in the 3600 block of Colston Drive. Emergency responders discovered a vehicle fully engulfed in flames in a wooded area.

Once the fire was extinguished, responders located a deceased individual inside the vehicle. The victim’s identity is being withheld until next of kin have been notified.

The cause of the crash and fire remains under investigation by the Albemarle County Police Department. Officials have not released further details regarding the circumstances of the incident.

Police continue to work to determine what led to the crash and ask for patience as they notify the victim’s family.
