HAGERSTOWN, MD — A Maryland 911 dispatcher is being celebrated for her role in safely guiding the delivery of a baby girl during an emergency call earlier this month.

Bethani Mummert, an Emergency Communications Specialist with Washington County’s 911 Communications Center, received the call on Nov. 13, just before 8:30 a.m., when a woman in labor required immediate assistance. Remaining calm and composed, Mummert reassured the caller while dispatching Emergency Medical Services and providing step-by-step instructions over the phone.

Thanks to Mummert’s guidance, the baby was successfully delivered before paramedics arrived on the scene.

Alan Matheny, the county’s Director of Emergency Management and Communications, praised Mummert’s professionalism, stating that her quick thinking exemplified the excellence of the emergency communications team.

To recognize her life-saving assistance, Mummert was honored with a stork pin and a certificate symbolizing her pivotal role in the delivery.
