Newark man arrested after shots fired during hotel dispute, police say

NEWARK, Del. — A Newark man is facing multiple charges after allegedly firing a gun during a dispute at a local hotel early Sunday morning, according to the Newark Police Department.

The incident occurred during a small gathering in a hotel room on November 24, where police say a confrontation escalated, leading 35-year-old Trent Wing to produce a firearm and point it at a victim. A second individual attempted to disarm Wing, resulting in a struggle during which the weapon discharged, damaging a door. No injuries were reported, and Wing fled the scene with the firearm, authorities said.

On November 25, Newark Police SWAT, Crisis Negotiations, and Criminal Investigations Unit officers apprehended Wing at his residence without incident. He was subsequently arraigned via videophone before Justice of the Peace Court #2 and charged with multiple felonies, including two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, and aggravated menacing.

Wing remains in custody at the Department of Corrections in lieu of a $120,100 cash bond. Police are continuing to investigate and have urged anyone with information to contact Detective W. Anderson at (302) 366-7100 x. 3469 or via email at wanderson@newark.de.us.
