Lewes daycare employee arrested for child abuse investigation

LEWES, Del. — Delaware State Police have charged a former daycare employee with child abuse after an investigation into an alleged incident involving a two-year-old at a Lewes childcare facility.

Authorities say 22-year-old Kaitlyn Kachnovitz was arrested on Monday following an investigation into the November 15 incident at Beach Babies Daycare, located on Learning Center Lane. Detectives allege that Kachnovitz forcefully grabbed a two-year-old child, causing a minor injury.

The daycare terminated Kachnovitz’s employment on the same day as the alleged incident, according to officials.

Kachnovitz surrendered herself to state police on Monday and was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2. She has been released on her own recognizance, pending further legal proceedings.

Details about the child’s condition or any potential follow-up actions by the daycare have not been disclosed by police.
