Erie declares snow emergency, begins towing vehicles blocking roadways

ERIE, PA — The Erie Police Department has declared a snow and ice emergency, initiating the towing of vehicles obstructing roadways to ensure snow plows and emergency vehicles can operate effectively.

Authorities announced Sunday morning that vehicles blocking access will be towed, and owners are urged to confirm their vehicle’s status by contacting the department’s non-emergency line at (814) 870-1125.

Those whose vehicles have been towed must visit the Erie Police Department headquarters at 626 State St., entering through the West 7th and Peach St. entrance, with valid photo identification to obtain release paperwork. Owners will then be directed to the designated impound facility to recover their vehicles.

Officials have not provided an estimate for when road clearing operations will conclude but emphasized the importance of keeping streets clear for public safety.
