Four charged in June fatal shooting outside District Heights business

DISTRICT HEIGHTS, MD — Four suspects, including two teenagers, have been charged in connection with a fatal shooting that claimed the life of a 19-year-old man and injured two others outside a business in District Heights in June, Prince George’s County Police announced.

The suspects, identified as Michael Zion Jones, 19, of Brandywine; Jacorey White, 19, of Capitol Heights; a 16-year-old male from Hyattsville; and a 17-year-old male from Fort Washington, are accused of fatally shooting Anthony Ward III, 19, of Upper Marlboro. Both juvenile suspects are being charged as adults.

Police say the shooting occurred on June 10, 2024, at approximately 3:15 p.m. in the 5400 block of Marlboro Pike. Officers responding to the scene found Ward suffering from gunshot wounds; he was pronounced dead at the scene. Two additional victims, an adult male and an adult female, were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

According to investigators, the shooting stemmed from an ongoing dispute, and the suspects and victims were known to each other.

All four suspects face charges of first- and second-degree murder, attempted first- and second-degree murder, and other related offenses. They remain in the custody of the Department of Corrections without bond.
