Teen surrenders to Columbus police in fatal shooting of 19-year-old

COLUMBUS, OH — A 17-year-old wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of a young woman in Columbus has turned himself in to authorities, police said.

Dionte Carey surrendered to the Columbus Division of Police on November 27. He was sought on murder charges for the November 18 shooting death of 19-year-old Taarah Griffin-Carmichael, which occurred in the 200 block of Highview Landing.

Griffin-Carmichael was pronounced dead following the shooting, which remains under investigation by the department’s Homicide Unit.

Police have not disclosed further details regarding Carey’s alleged involvement or the circumstances surrounding the incident.
