Pedestrian critically injured in Howell Township crash under investigation

HOWELL, N.J. — Authorities are investigating a crash that left a 45-year-old pedestrian with life-threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle on Route 9 in Howell Township earlier this week.

The incident occurred Tuesday at approximately 5:17 p.m. near the intersection of US Route 9 and Lanes Mill Road, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office. A preliminary investigation revealed that a female driver traveling northbound in the left lane of Route 9 struck the pedestrian as she approached the intersection.

The victim, identified as a Lakewood resident, was transported to a local hospital, where she is receiving treatment for critical injuries. Officials have not released further details about her condition.

The driver remained on the scene and is cooperating with the investigation, authorities said. No charges have been filed at this time as the investigation continues.

The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and the Howell Township Police Department are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to come forward with information.
