TINTON FALLS, N.J. — A portion of Shafto Road will be closed next week to accommodate work on a major water main infrastructure project, the Borough of Tinton Falls Police Department announced.

Starting Monday, December 9, at 7 a.m., the northbound lanes of Shafto Road will be closed at Wayside Road South for construction led by the New Jersey American Water Company. The closure is scheduled to remain in effect until 5 p.m. on Friday, December 13.

Detours will redirect motorists to use Wayside Road southbound to Hope Road northbound, with officers stationed along the route to help manage traffic flow. Officials are warning drivers to expect significant delays and backups in the area.

“We highly recommend that motorists plan their travel accordingly or even avoid the area completely, if at all possible,” the police department advised in a statement.

The work is part of an ongoing effort to upgrade the area’s water infrastructure with a 30-inch water main installation.

Shafto Road’s northbound lanes will close for five days, likely causing delays for Tinton Falls drivers.
