Glen Burnie lights up the season with tree lighting and festive celebration

GLEN BURNIE, Md. — Families gathered in Glen Burnie on Friday evening for the annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony, an event that brought holiday cheer to the community and marked the start of the season.

Organized by the Glen Burnie Improvement Association, the celebration featured festive activities, including letter-writing to Santa Claus, a Toys for Tots collection drive, and holiday treats like hot cocoa and cookies.

The Anne Arundel County Police Department’s Northern District joined the event, supporting the festivities and commending the organizers. “The holiday spirit was in full force,” the department shared on social media, highlighting the collaborative efforts behind the tradition.

This year’s event paid special tribute to longtime community advocate Barbara “Barb” Moeller, honoring her contributions to Glen Burnie during the night’s celebration.
