Driver killed in hit and run crash involving stolen vehicle

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A high-speed collision late Monday night on Southern Avenue in Southeast Washington claimed the life of a 36-year-old man, while the driver of a stolen vehicle fled the scene on foot.

The crash occurred on Dec. 9 at approximately 11:07 p.m., when a Honda Civic attempted to turn left out of a driveway on the Prince George’s County side of the 2600 block of Southern Avenue. A Jeep Grand Cherokee, reported stolen in Loudoun County, Virginia, on Dec. 5, was traveling northbound at a high speed when it struck the Honda.

The driver of the Honda, Omar Davis of Forrest Heights, Maryland, was ejected from the vehicle and found unconscious by responding officers. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead despite medical efforts.

The driver of the Jeep fled the scene on foot, and the investigation into their identity is ongoing. Police are seeking public assistance in locating the suspect.
