Pedestrian critically injured in Howell Township crash, investigation underway

HOWELL TOWNSHIP, N.J. — Authorities are investigating a vehicle-versus-pedestrian crash in Howell Township that left a 45-year-old woman with life-threatening injuries, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago announced Thursday.

The crash occurred Tuesday evening at approximately 5:17 p.m. near the intersection of US Route 9 and Lanes Mill Road. According to an initial investigation, a female driver traveling northbound in the left lane of Route 9 struck the pedestrian as she approached the intersection.

The victim, identified as a Lakewood resident, was transported to a local hospital, where she is receiving treatment for critical injuries. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities.

The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation by the Howell Township Police Department and the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.
