New York State Police deploy drone to assist firefighters at Chenango pallet company blaze

CHENANGO, N.Y. — New York State Police provided critical aerial support during a fire at the Quality Pallet Company in the town of Chenango, utilizing drone technology to aid firefighters in locating hot spots, officials said.

Troop C’s Emergency Management Sergeant Bonanno and Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) Coordinator Trooper Thayer deployed a drone equipped with thermal imaging to give responding fire departments an aerial view of the scene. The drone’s thermal capabilities helped pinpoint areas of concern during the firefighting efforts.

State police did not provide details on the extent of the fire or any damage but emphasized the value of aerial technology in assisting ground crews during such incidents.

The collaboration between the state police and local fire departments highlights the increasing use of drones in emergency response scenarios to enhance safety and efficiency.
