NYC Department of Education employee arrested for third-degree assault in Brooklyn

NEW YORK, NY — A 75-year-old New York City Department of Education employee was arrested Monday afternoon and charged with third-degree assault, police said.

The arrest occurred at approximately 1:37 p.m. within the confines of the 79th Precinct in Brooklyn. Authorities identified the suspect as Luis Benalcazar.

Details surrounding the circumstances of the assault were not immediately available. Police have not released information regarding the victim or the events leading to the charge.

Benalcazar, an on-duty employee at the time of the incident, faces a misdemeanor charge under New York Penal Law. Officials from the Department of Education have yet to comment on the arrest.
