Tennessee deputy killed in line of duty, suspect fatally shot by police

SELMER, TN — Deputy Rick Finley, a full-time McNairy County Sheriff’s deputy and part-time Selmer police officer, was fatally shot Saturday while responding to a call about a suspicious person, authorities confirmed.

Finley was working a second job with the Selmer Police Department when he responded to the call Saturday afternoon. He encountered the suspect in a driveway, where he was shot and killed while attempting to apprehend the individual.

A second Selmer police officer arrived at the scene and shot the suspect, who was pronounced dead. Authorities have not yet released the name of the suspect or additional details about the incident.

The McNairy County Sheriff’s Office and Selmer Police Department expressed condolences to Finley’s family, friends, and colleagues as they mourn the loss of the veteran law enforcement officer.

“This is a heartbreaking loss for our community and law enforcement family,” officials said in a statement.
