Fugitive Wanted for Double Murder in Maryland Captured in Florida

FREDERICK, Md. — A Florida man accused of a double murder in New Market, Maryland, is being held without bond following a court ruling on Thursday. David Phillip Turner, 34, of Miami Beach, Florida, was extradited to Maryland this week and is now in custody at the Frederick County Adult Detention Center.

Judge Eric Schaffer of the Frederick County District Court issued the no-bond ruling after Turner waived his bond review hearing. Turner was arrested in Florida earlier this month and extradited under a Governor’s warrant, following collaboration between the Frederick County State’s Attorney’s Office and the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities allege Turner’s involvement in a double homicide that has shaken the small New Market community. Details regarding the victims or the circumstances surrounding the killings have not yet been released as the investigation remains ongoing.

In a statement released Thursday, the Frederick County State’s Attorney’s Office acknowledged the coordination between local and out-of-state law enforcement in apprehending Turner and ensuring his transfer to Maryland.

Turner will remain in detention as he awaits further court proceedings related to the charges.
