BRICK TOWNSHIP, N.J. — Authorities have identified Anne Rasmussen, 58, of Whiting, as the victim in a fatal head-on collision that occurred early Friday morning on Route 70 near the Lowe’s home improvement store.

The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office reported that the crash, which took place around 5:00 a.m., involved a Toyota Rav 4 driven by Jose Romero Quinteros, 53, of Howell, and a Volkswagen Beetle operated by Rasmussen. Investigators determined that Romero Quinteros was traveling eastbound in the westbound lane, on the wrong side of the concrete barrier dividing the highway, when the vehicles collided head-on.

Rasmussen was partially ejected from her vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. Romero Quinteros was extricated from his SUV and transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, where he remains in critical but stable condition.

The Brick Township Police Department has issued motor vehicle summonses to Romero Quinteros for driving while intoxicated and reckless driving. The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that the investigation into the crash remains active and ongoing.

Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer urged anyone with information about the incident to contact Detective Joseph Mitchell at 732-929-2027, extension 3532, or Officer David Thergesen at 732-262-1100.
