WASHINGTON, D.C. — A 66-year-old man was struck and killed Tuesday evening after a vehicle veered onto a sidewalk in Northeast Washington, D.C., according to police.

Officers from the First District responded around 7:04 p.m. to reports of a crash near C Street and 16th Street, Northeast, where they discovered the victim, identified as Ronnie Clark of Northeast D.C., lying on the south sidewalk of the 1500 block of C Street.

DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services arrived on the scene and attempted lifesaving measures, but Clark was pronounced dead shortly after their arrival.

Investigators say a 2010 Nissan Murano was traveling at high speed when the driver lost control, hit a curb, and mounted the sidewalk, striking Clark. Police reported the driver fled the scene on foot immediately following the crash.

The Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit is actively working to identify the suspect.
