Shots fired on New Year’s Day rattle Utica neighborhood

UTICA, N.Y. — The Utica Police Department is investigating a shooting incident on the 1500 block of Miller Street that occurred on New Year’s Day, shortly after 6:28 p.m.

Officers responded to the area after the department’s ShotSpotter system detected multiple gunshots. Upon arrival, police discovered that a residence had been struck several times by gunfire.

Authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported. Officers at the scene also recovered multiple shell casings and live rounds scattered on the roadway.

A witness reported seeing a sedan, possibly red, leaving the area and heading northbound on Miller Street, police said.

The investigation remains ongoing as police work to identify those involved.
