Maryland woman fatally shot; ex-husband charged with murder

LEXINGTON PARK, Md. — Maryland State Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a 36-year-old woman in St. Mary’s County, with her ex-husband now facing murder charges.

Chaquanda Latise Odom, of California, Maryland, was pronounced dead at the scene after troopers found her with multiple gunshot wounds on Friday morning. Police responded to the shooting at approximately 11:10 a.m. in the 21000 block of Liberty Street in Lexington Park.

Emergency medical services arrived but were unable to save Odom, who was declared deceased shortly after police arrived.

Following the incident, police arrested Jayson David Pressley, 38, of Lexington Park. According to investigators, Pressley, Odom’s ex-husband, turned himself in at the St. Mary’s County Detention Center.

Pressley has been charged with first- and second-degree murder and is being held without bond at the detention center.
