Gunman arrested after threatening two and damaging property in D.C.

WASHINGTON, DC — A suspect accused of threatening two people with a gun and damaging property in Northwest DC was arrested Friday evening, police said.

The incident occurred on the 5900 block of Georgia Avenue NW, where the suspect entered an establishment, brandished a firearm, and threatened two victims. According to authorities, the suspect also caused damage to the property before fleeing the scene on foot, heading north on Georgia Avenue.

Responding officers located the suspect shortly after and detained him. The individual was positively identified and taken into custody.

The suspect, identified as 42-year-old Maurice Hughes, has been charged with assault with a dangerous weapon (gun) and felony destruction of property.
