BALTIMORE, MD — A Baltimore County woman found an unexpected source of comfort after a recent personal loss, winning $50,000 on a Maryland Lottery scratch-off ticket.

The Pikesville resident, a professional therapist, visited Maryland Lottery headquarters on Wednesday to claim her prize from the Millionaire’s Club instant ticket. She purchased the $20 ticket at Giant #159 on Old Court Road after deciding a scratch-off might lift her spirits.

“I lost someone special on Christmas Day,” she told lottery officials. “It’s been a tough few weeks for everyone in my family.”

The woman said she rarely buys lottery tickets but was drawn to the Millionaire’s Club game for its $1 million top prize. Although she didn’t win the jackpot, uncovering the $50,000 prize left her in disbelief.

“I sat in my car just staring at it,” she recalled. “I looked in the rearview window and my eyes were as wide as they’ve ever been and my jaw was hanging open. I could not believe what was happening.”

The winner plans to use her prize money to support family members affected by their recent loss. The Millionaire’s Club game, which launched in July 2024, still has two $1 million top prizes and three $50,000 prizes remaining.
