Maryland lottery win gives New York couple $50K boost for house hunting

BALTIMORE, Md. – A New York City couple searching for a home in Maryland just got a major financial boost after winning a $50,000 top prize on a Maryland Lottery scratch-off ticket.

Juan Infante, a longtime scratch-off player and bartender, bought the winning Cash Boom ticket at Sam’s Lobby Shop in Baltimore City during a recent visit. After initially playing his usual crossword scratch-off with no luck, Infante decided to try the Cash Boom game and uncovered three vault symbols, securing the game’s top prize.

“I thought it was $50, so I scanned it. Then I saw all the zeros!” Infante said. Excited, he asked the store owner where he could claim his $50,000 prize, sparking a celebration.

Infante and his wife are actively house hunting in Maryland, and the unexpected windfall will go toward a down payment. “Maryland’s doing a great job,” he joked. “This is a down payment!”

For selling the winning ticket, Sam’s Lobby Shop at 10 North Calvert Street received a $500 bonus from the Maryland Lottery.

Infante, a dedicated Baltimore Orioles and Ravens fan, hinted he might use part of his winnings to attend the Ravens’ upcoming playoff game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

A lucky scratch-off has brought this couple one step closer to making Maryland their home.
