Asbury Park police debunk viral ‘serial killer’ rumor circulating on social media

ASBURY PARK, N.J. — The Asbury Park Police Department has confirmed that rumors of a “serial killer” in the area are false, addressing concerns sparked by a misleading social media post.

Officials stated Monday that the viral Facebook post incorrectly claimed a serial killer was active in Asbury Park.

Police clarified that the incident referenced in the post actually occurred in Yakima County, Washington, in September 2024 and has no connection to Asbury Park.

“There is no threat to the Asbury Park community regarding this incident,” the department stated.
