Newark police seek suspect in assault of NJ Transit bus driver

NEWARK, NJ — The Newark Department of Public Safety is asking for the public’s help in identifying a man wanted in connection with an aggravated assault on an NJ Transit bus driver.

The incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, near Lyons Avenue and Parkview Terrace.

According to police, the male suspect attempted to flag down a bus at an undesignated stop. When the driver did not stop, the suspect boarded at the next official stop and got into a verbal altercation with the driver before slapping her in the face.

Detectives describe the suspect as wearing all-black clothing and a black hat, with distinctive red and black hair.

Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr. is urging anyone with information to contact the Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). All tips are confidential and may be eligible for a reward.
